Outage probabilities and bit error rates for a BPSK DS/CDMA mobile radio system with MRC microscopic and selection macroscopic diversity are derived on reverse channel having a number of resolvable, discrete fading paths. FEC channel coding is used to improve the BER performance and its effects are analyzed. The radio link is modeled as an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel with Rayleigh fading and log-normal shadowing, and is also corrupted by both self and mutual interferences assumed Gaussian due to multipath and multiuser, respectively. The outage probabilities are computed for various values of standard deviation of log-normal shadowing and for different threshold BER's. Outage is an important consideration in the design of cellular and mobile radio systems, and can be defined when the error rate exceeds a certain threshold for voice traffic.
