The programmable divider with pulse swallow method is generally used in the PLL frequency synthesizer for FM·VHF band. A (1/2) prescaler is usually inserted in front of the pulse swallow divider for higher frequency applications. This configuration introduces the slow lock up time because the reference frequency is necessarily decreased by (1/2). In this paper, we propose a new precaler method using the novel (N+1/2) pulse swallow divider, by which the PLL frequency synthesizer keeps the reference frequency unchanged in spite of using the (1/2) prescaler. Therefore, the PLL frequency synthesizer employing the proposed divider does not degrade the lock up time. Experimental results show the advantage of this configuration
