The meteorological conditions and the significant wave heights were examined for the shipwreck occurrence on the Sea around Korea for the period of 5 years (1975 to 1979). The significant wave heights were computed by SMB's method using the weather maps. The pressure patterns, the occurrence distribution, and the range of ton of the shipwrecks were analyzed. The results show that a) small fishing boats less than 5 ton were wrecked frequently in the coastal waters and near islands, b) the pressure patterns which associated with the shipwreck occurrence had various features on the districted sea areas, and c) the significant wave heights which brought about shipwrecks were related to the range of ton of shipwrecks on the districted sea areas.
