Four decades after the Green Revolution the sustainability of Indian agriculture is facing serious challenge to the country’s food security all over again. Indiscriminate intensive cropping systems and unbalanced fertilizer application robbed the soil of its nutrients and polluted the ground water and contaminated the crops enlarging the gap between riches and poor. The critics termed it as “Red Revolution not Green Revolution”. Experts feel that there is an enormous potential for propagating sustainable agriculture in India.
