Recently, Micro-lattice was introduced as the lightest metal with a truss structure which is fabricated using 3D Lithography technology. It has very high porosity. That is, at maximum, 99.99% of the volume is filled with air and only remaining 0.01% is made of metal. Because the truss structure is composed of hollow tubes with wall thickness less than 10μm, the strength per weight was expected very high compared to conventional metal foams. However, the compression experiment revealed that the results were significantly lower than the expectations. Because truss elements of Microlattice were missed in order for the structure to be rigid. To solve this problem, Shellular was introduced. Shellular is defined as the cellular material composed of shell structures. Nevertheless, Shellular fabricated using the technique very similar to that for Microlattice. First, a template is fabricated using a mask-based lithography. Then, its surface is coated by Nialloy using electroless plating. Finally, the template is etched out to achieve a hollow structure of Ni-alloy. In this work, we investigate the effect of mask pattern on the morphology of final shellular structure and in a consequence, the compressive properties.
