Pseudorabies is an often fatal disease affecting most species of domestic and wild animals. The disease also causes a significant economic losses in the swine industry in many parts of world. Successful control leading to eradication of pseudorabies is largely dependen,t upon rapid identification of the infection by accurate diagnosis, and followed by total elimination of the infected herds from the farm. Accordingly, an attempt was made to develop a rapid and sensitive diagnostic method of modified radial immunodiffusion enzyme assay (MRIDEA) by utilizing monoclonal antibody against pseudorabies virus (PRV) polypeptides with molecular weight of 22K, 62K, 74K, 100K, 110K and 115K. The test was found to be specific, sensitive and reproducible to detect antibody against pseudorabies viruswhen compared with other serological tests, The results imply that MRIDEA together with serum neutralization test could be useful for seroepidemiological survey of pseudorabies infections in field. Attempts were also made to conduct nationwide survey on pseudorabies infection by MRIDEA. There were no positive cases of pig identified suggesting that domestic pig populations are free from the infection.
