The purpose of this study is to use Jeju’s spontaneous herbaceous plant, Centella asiatica, which possesses medicinal properties for many kinds of diseases, including skin problems, as a dyeing material, and also to develop environmentallyfriendly materials and fashion products through tie-dyeing methods. It also attempts to develop suitable fashions for newborn babies. Some fashion products for newborn infants were made with the tie-dyeing method, producing a lovely, soft, cheerful, lively, and natural image. Those products included two pairs of hand covers, feet wraps, and shoes, as well as two hats, two baenaet jeogoris, two chin rests, and two scarves respectively. The baenaet jeogori was produced by curved sewing and knotting with beans inside. The technique of broad-stitching folded cloth thickly in a straight line or the technique of sewing a triangular pattern sequentially was used for hand covers and feet wraps. The method of tying once or twice or using overcasting stitches diagonally was used for hats and shoes. Another technique, curved sewing and tying with a thread naturally at even spaces, was used for chin rests and scarves.
