    We consider a community grid, where batteries are used as loads during times of low power consumption and as generators during times of high power consumption. We first present the power and the communication requirements. We then discuss a semi-decentralized, hierarchical communication model for the considered system. Finally, we propose algorithms for selected power-sharing techniques to allow effective usage of the generated power within the community. The proposed community grid model allows an efficient use of the generated power by using the batteries to absorb the power surplus and use it when required. Moreover, it reduces the amount of communication on the grid and enhances the privacy of the community homes, since the detailed energy consumption reports are kept at the home level.
