    This work presents control responses of a quarter car magnetorheological (MR) damper suspension system using a new fuzzy sliding mode controller to enhance control robustness against parameter uncertainties and external disturbance. In this work, three different control strategies are employed; fuzzy logic, sliding mode controller and adaptive control technique. The fuzzy logic is used to establish the system model and incorporated with a sliding mode controller. Subsequently, an adaptive control law is formulated to update control parameters of the fuzzy sliding mode controller in which the closed-loop stability is guaranteed. Then, a disturbance estimator to predict external road profiles is designed and integrated with the fuzzy sliding mode controller. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through the investigation on vibration control performances of a semi-active vehicle suspension system featuring MR damper. It is identified from the investigation that the proposed controller can provide better vibration control performance with lower power compared with one of existing fuzzy sliding mode controllers.
