There has been a dramatic increase in parent education programs with dynamic approaches in Korea since the 1990s. The purpose of this research is to examine the trends in parent education programs by analyzing 63 theses in the six major journals of family science in Korea. The findings of this research are as follows. First, the number of related research increases as time passes while covering various topics such as family with disabled, multi-cultural family, single-parent family, education program for fathers and online parent education program. Second, out of 63 theses, 42 theses include both ‘developing’ and ‘implementing’ of the parent education programs while only 10 theses were about ‘developing’ the programs and another 10 theses were about ‘running’ the existing programs. Last, the majority of the programs were about ‘technical education’ but a number of programs also included contents such as understanding parents and children or change of behavior. To sum up, parent education programs not only reflect required role of parents in each society and each generation, but broadly represent social issues and trends of the society. While providing detailed examination of the trends in parent education programs in Korea, this research lays a foundation for further related research and suggests future directions.
