The present study aims to investigate the orientational metaphors in the Psalms and finds out what their characteristics are in terms of the cognitive linguistic approach. There exist 19 types of orientational metaphors in total. The metaphors of vertical orientation in the Psalms let us know that religion and faith are earthly as well as heavenly. In addition, David’s emotional state and cultural situation are considerably expressed in terms of the horizontal motion. The spatial metaphors in the Psalms are rooted in the psalmist’s physical, cultural, emotional, and religious experience and the cognitive perception of reality. For these reasons, they are utilized to understand the psalmist’s spatial conceptualizations in his mental space.
