The purpose of this thesis is to compare and analyze the usage, meaning and ambiguity of quantifiers in English and Korean. Quantifiers appear in English and Korean, but there are some differences in their usage. There are universal quantifier and existential quantifier in English and Korean. However, they are used differently in negative expressions involving quantifiers. There are three ways of expressing English and there is a way of expressing two kinds of Korean. In other words, the negative expression of English is used as the structure of ‘everybody+not’,’not+everybody’ and ‘nobody’. On the other hand, the negative expression of Korean is used as a structure corresponding to ‘quantifier+typical negative expression(no one does not)’ and ‘quantifier+ji’. English and Korean have a commonality in the language that expresses the meaning of the sentence using the quantifiers. However, the expression of ambiguity may be expressed by placing the negative expression in front of or behind the quantifier, or by using double quantifiers in English. It may be represented by using the vocabulary of negative expression although it is also expressed by the position of the quantifiers in Korean. It seems necessary to study the meaning of quantifiers in terms of the whole sentence meaning and pragmatics rather than studying only the vocabulary itself.
