    This study investigates how English and Korean speakers perceive and encode the path and manner of motion verbs. English is a satellite-framed language, where the ‘manner’ of motion events is encoded in a verb and the ‘path’ of motion events is encoded in a preposition. Korean is a verb-framed language, which encodes ‘path’ in a verb. Encoding the manner of motion events can cause extra cognitive processing efforts for verb-framed language speakers, so the manner component of motion events is often not overtly expressed. Through the examination of the writing samples of English and Korean speakers, the study has found that unlike English speakers, Korean speakers appear to pay much attention to the path component of motion events, while they tend to ignore the manner component.
