This study focuses on the relationship between nationalism and anti-China sentiment in South Korea, analyzing how South Korean history education and media have fostered it. In particular, it explores the tendency of South Korean history education to rely on nationalist narratives and how these narratives are disseminated to the public through the media. He argues that the nationalistic narrative originating from South Korean history education, combined with the media, creates anti-Chinese sentiment among the public, which is further reinforced by historical and political events such as China’s Northeast Process and the THAAD system. It also analyzes how this anti-China sentiment is spread through digital media and manifests itself in the form of hatred, and reconsiders the role of public history. He emphasized the need for efforts to bridge the gap between academia and the public through public history.
