Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze and identify the differences in participation motivation and exercise behavior stages based on the levels of physical self-esteem among college students participating in skiing in the People’s Republic China.
Method: To achieve this goal, a survey was conducted with 400 college students participating in skiing at Yabuli Ski Resort in Heilongjiang Province. After excluding 30 insincere responses, 370 valid responses were selected for the final analysis. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 27.0 and AMOSS version 22.0, employing frequency analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and independent t -tests.
Results: First, participation motivation varied according to levels of physical self-esteem. Second, differences in exercise behavior stages were observed based on physical self-esteem levels. Third, changes in exercise behavior stages were confirmed to be influenced by the degree of participation motivation.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that higher physical self-esteem has a positive effect on the relationship between participation motivation and the stages of exercise behavior. In addition, it can be stated that increased participation motivation has a positive effect on the change in exercise behavior stages.
