This thesis attempts to examine the archetypes of Ernest Hemingway’s “Father and Son” and Lee Soon-won’s Walking with Son. Hemingway recalls hunting with his father while driving in a car with his son, and Lee Soon-won also talks about the history of the road and family relationships while walking along the Daegwallyeong road with his son. In both works, we can find a prototype of a father, such as a wise old man who guides his sons to live safely, and the universal path they walked can see the prototype of the journey of “Gingam,” in which an odyssey turns into Ulysses in the Trojan War. From such archetypal images, fathers are guiding their sons through paths they know for their safe lives, and it can be seen that the forest trees standing on the street are universal prototypes that symbolize the infinite.
