The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the MZ generation college students' motivation to participate in general physical education classes on their psychological well-being and adaptation to college life. To this end, the survey data of 382 people participating in general physical education classes at universities in the metropolitan area were used in the final study. For research analysis, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS 29.0, and the conclusions drawn are as follows. First, it was found that the motivation to participate in physical education had a significant effect on psychological well-being. In particular, it was found that mood change, partnership, self-realization, enjoyment, and immersion promote psychological well-being factors. On the other hand, amotivation was found to have a negative effect on competence and enjoyment. Second, it was found that the motivation to participate in liberal arts sports had a significant effect on college life adaptation. In particular, it was found that the motivation for mood change promoted college attachment and the motivation for companions promoted social adaptation. However, motivation was identified as a factor that hindered college attachment, emotional adaptation, and social adaptation. Third, competency, a sub-factor of psychological well-being, had a positive effect on college life adaptation, but immersion rather hindered academic and social adaptation.
