Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how dance contributes to the improvement of cognitive function in older adults.
Method: A narrative literature review was conducted using both domestic and international studies focusing on older adults, dance, and cognitive function. Relevant literature was identified through major academic databases.
Results: The findings indicated that dance was a multisensory activity that simultaneously engaged physical, cognitive, emotional, and social domains, thereby enhancing memory, executive function, attention, and social connectedness in older adults. These multidimensional characteristics provided more effective cognitive stimulation than single-modality physical activities.
Conclusion: Dance shows significant potential as a non-pharmacological approach to promoting cognitive health in later life. However, to maximize its effectiveness, it is essential to implement structured program designs and ensure instructor expertise that address the cognitive characteristics of older adults.
