The purpose of this study is to categorize the “把” constructioninto displacement (transfer) typesand resultative types, and to systematically compare the event structures of each type through transitivity-weighted analysis. This approach aims to quantify the qualitative criteria of previous transitivity theories and to provide a clearer explanation of the differences in transitivity levels between the displacement and resultative types.
By applying weighted scores that reflect the functional importance of each transitivity feature, the overall transitivity rankings of the four constructions were found to be: Resultative Type I > Displacement Type I > Resultative Type II = Displacement Type II. Resultative Type I, in which the final state is most clearly realized and the patient undergoes complete change under the influence of the agent, received the highest transitivity score (24 points).
Following this, Displacement Type I, which centers on the physical movement of the patient and achieves high scores for individuation and affectedness, obtained 22 points, representing the second-highest transitivity level.
Resultative Type II, in which state changes occur gradually, scored 16.5 points due to relatively lower scores in the completeness and punctuality features. Similarly, Displacement Type II, which emphasizes patient transfer to a beneficiary, showed limited direct influence on the patient and low scores for individuation and affectedness, resulting in a relatively low transitivity score of 16.5 points.
