In this paper, adaptive noise cancellation system based on the compensated LMS(least mean square) algorithm was implemented by using digital signal processor. Before the hardware implementation with fixed-point programmable DSP, the performance of the compensated LMS algorithm was verified through the fixed-point computer simulation for the speech signals. In the fixed-point computer simulation, the compensated LMS algorithm results in the improvement of SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) about 2.6dB compared with LMS algorithm as the case of floating point computer simulation. The hardware-implemented compensated LMS algorithm has better performance than the conventional LMS algorithm for speech signals.
