초록· 키워드

This study aims to investigate the perceived image of Korean man through exposure to popular Korean dramas among Russian female audience. While reaching this goal, such uncovered by other studies topics are considered, as development of Korean wave (also known as Hallyu) products’ popularity in Russia, as well as distribution and access to Korean dramas within Russian internet. While the question of Hallyu origins in Russia as in non-Asian country was approached with the help of cultural proximity and glocalization theories, in addition with data gathering, Korean dramas distribution and access part was based mainly on author’s personal field experience. Main goal of investigation was approached with the use of feminist studies about women’s use of media. Hallyu, started in 2000s from the interest towards Korean films, gradually proliferated and gained huge popularity, leading to the spread of Korean dramas - they are being widely consumed online, after being translated and shared for free within vast number of related online communities. It was found out that male images of Korean dramas, although being understood as a part of imaginary reality, become a basis for certain expectations from ‘real’ Korean men and comparison of these perceived images to the representations of Russian men in the real world. Female audience, while criticizing Russian men’s expressive masculinity, firstly were searching for and emphasizing (moderate) masculine characteristics of male protagonist in Korean dramas, attacking them if they were not ‘masculine enough’.
