Objective: The aim of this study is to create personas representing the following disabilities: visually impaired, hearing impaired, spinal cord injured, and elderlies, - especially under the context of home appliance usage. Background: The disabled population in present era cannot fully appreciate the usefulness and convenience of modern technologies. Even if the manufacturers attempt to develop accessible products, they lack in deeper understanding of actual user needs and their contexts. ISO 29138-1 provides summarized user needs by their disability types. However, it is focused on web-accessibility and moreover it is challenging for manufacturers or designers to directly apply the given user needs into their product development. Thereby, it is essential to provide representative personas for each disability types which can help manufacturers comprehend the needs and further consider the possible usage scenarios of target population in deeper level.
