In Korea, there have occurred several marine oil spill accidents of relatively large scale in recent years, therefore peoples in Korea are very much concerned about the preservation of marine environment. Most of those oil spill accidents have been occurred by human errors during navigation. The support by laws and regulations is essential to prevent those kinds of accidents, and to carry out oil pollution control rapidly and efficiently in the events of such accidents. Korean government amended twice it's laws for the prevention of marine pollution after those recent oil pollution accidents, but it is necessary to improve those laws for prevention of marine pollution continuously because of the importance of the prevention of marine pollution and preservation of marine environment. The object of this survey is to draw out recommendations related to the articles which need to be amended in Korean laws for prevention of marine pollution, after the investigation and analysis of Korean, world major country's and the neighbor country's laws for the prevention of marine pollution, and related international conventions.
