In nature, numerous predatory bacterial microbes are found and some of them are known to be useful for bio-refinery, bio-industry and even biomedical applications. Current methods for screening predatory bacterial microbes depend on conventional filtration instruments and centrifuges that are inefficient in screening yields. In this work, we present a novel microfluidic device that enables high throughput screening of Bdellovibrio and Like Organisms (BALOs) using their chemotaxis. The microfluidic device consists of two layers that are separated by a polycarbonate membrane that are 2 m in pore size. BALOs with other impurities are loaded in the bottom chamber (layer) while various attractant and repellent chemical compounds and live microorganisms are loaded in the top layer (chamber) simultaneously. We demonstrate that only motile BALOs can penetrate through the membrane and move into the top layer toward chemotaxis or preys but impurities in the bottom chamber remain and precipitate. We believe that this method is very useful to sort/screen BALOs and help to understand how BALOs chase their prey microorganisms. Recently, the researches for understanding the characteristic hemodynamic features of blood flow in stenotic legion are vigorously issued with the increase of blood-based diseases. In mechanical point of view, especially, the several important mechanisms about the development of stenosis in terms of the shear rate are argued controve ... 전체 초록 보기
