Objective: This study aims to identify the brand characteristics of vehicle exhaust sound and validate the brand personality framework. Background: Brand personality is becoming more important for the most products in many industries. Also, for vehicles, brand image is one of the most important factors for good-selling. Nowadays, brand sound is as crucial as exterior and interior design. But few studies exist focusing on brand personality of vehicle exhaust sound. Method: We reviewed papers about vehicle exhaust sound and brand personality and proposed the brand personality framework of vehicle exhaust sound. We analyzed the reliability of proposed framework by calculating Cronbach’s alpha of each dimension. Also, each engine sound sample was compared with the same brand one using paired t-test, and the unity in each brand was confirmed. Lastly, we found the relationship of overall satisfaction and brand personality dimensions. Results: It was found that dimensions of brand personality for vehicle exhaust sound were ‘confidence’, ‘sophistication’, ‘competence’, ‘excitement’, and ‘familiarity’. Also, ‘Sophistication’ was identified as the key brand personality dimension of satisfaction for vehicle exhaust sound. Conclusion: In this study, validity of the brand personality framework which we suggested was verified. Also, we figured out the relationship among customer’s satisfaction and brand personality of vehicle exhaust sound. Application: With the results of this study, the designers of vehicle exhaust sound are able to know how to make the brand personality of vehicle exhaust sound for the desired level of satisfaction. And it is expected that brand personality of vehicle exhaust sound can be conceptualized more clearly.
