In the age of digital technology and its resultant informatization, its core source can be said to be history or historical studies. This study was intended to make clear that history is the core source in a field of cultural contents newly presented in the 21th-century information-oriented society from such a perspective.
It attempted to make an intensive examination of the relationship between history and cultural contents under the above basic premise. First of all, it introduced the concept of digital humanities much used in foreign countries and presented its relationship to cultural contents. In addition, it attempted to make a structural explanation of how fields such as orthodox history, digital humanities and cultural contents are combined with each other at the level of the general theory of history. Next, it attempted to present diverse modes of combination between fields such as history and cultural contents as four fields including storytelling, heritage, Korean wave and visual history in a broad sense.
Digital humanities and cultural contents can be said to an attempt to implement universality through specificity, speciality through popularization. It lies in the original objective of history that aims to tell the truth through facts. Therefore, history cannot encompass all fields of cultural contents but can clearly be said to the core source of creation of cultural contents.
