Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the affective satisfaction of multi-function switch - under the driving condition, in terms of operating satisfaction, and to determine the relationships between the functions of multi-function switch and the luxuriousness. Background: The multi-function switch in terms of driving manipulates turn signals, lights, windshield wiper, and et cetera, while holding the steering wheel. Consequently, the satisfaction and luxuriousness in operation of multi-function switch with such high frequency of use are closely related to the luxuriousness of the automobile, possessed by the owner-driver. Method: 7 functions in 6 types of domestic and foreign products (2 Korean, 2 Japanese, and 2 Deutchland) were evaluated. Overall 95 participants, consist of 57 males and 38, were enrolled in the experiment. Six jigs were built to provide similar handling of the multi-function switch and to proceed the experiment. Results: The operating satisfaction of function affecting the luxuriousness resulted in order of following manipulations: 1-2-3 level of windshield wiper manipulation, turn signal control, and windshield washer spray. According to the correlation of the gender and age with the operating satisfaction, the gender is certainly demonstrated to have correlation with the operating satisfaction while the age is not. Conclusion: Regardless of common assumption that the visual affective factors plays the largest role in the luxuriousness, in regard to the physical location of the multi-function switch - behind the steering wheel, the low visual interaction with the driver allows to say the operating satisfaction of each function certainly holds high influence on the luxuriousness. Application: The results of this study are expected to provide the elevation on the operating satisfaction and luxuriousness of automobile felt by the driver through the improvement of multi-function switch, influencing the enhancement of the multi-function operating satisfaction of the actual driver.
