Objective: The aim for this study is to verify the significant factors that are related to drivers’ satisfaction considering their emotional states and to develop evaluation indexes of satisfaction. Background: Emotional states, in particular pleased and satisfied states, are strongly related to the accident rate and these can arise from color stimulus. Drivers can clearly and easily receive information through color using only peripheral vision, so, if selected appropriately, colors are one of the most effective stimuli while driving. Method: In this study, colors paired with menus on the in-vehicle LCD display were used to control emotions. When selecting a color for each menu, we considered nine factors. Evaluation index containing five variables, perception, suitability, compatibility, preference, and eye fatigue, and satisfaction was also developed and verified. Result: through regression and multicollinearity analysis, we found that all variables were independent, but only four variables except eye fatigue were significant on satisfaction. The most and least influencing variables on satisfaction were suitability and perception, respectively. Conclusion: Satisfaction is influenced by preference of color as well as variables related with color-menu combination such as suitability and compatibility. Also, eye fatigue is not a considering factor for satisfaction, but still needs to be reduced. Application: The four significant factors for satisfaction can be applied to design in-vehicle devices as well as LCD display and help to drive safely.
