    Objective: This study aims to investigate recommendable length and instruction type for the speech given by AI assistant under the assistive guidance context with step-by-step instructions, based on the user subjective ratings and their task completion time. Background: The development of AI technology has increased the usage of AI assistant in daily life. Although most people use AI assistants as questioning tools and 30% of those questions are “how-to instructions”, the majority of guidelines on the provision of instruction require a systematic arrangement. This field of study lacks in number yet to enhance the user experience, accordingly. Method: This study conducted two experiments to compare users’ performance when the verbal instructions - or follow-through assistive statement - were given in different speech lengths and methods. Both experiments were carried out in the kitchen where an AI assistant prototype verbally provided cooking instructions to the participants. In the first experiment, there were three different speech lengths of instructions: short (within three words), medium (4~6 words), and long (more than seven words).
