To provide short message service through CDMA network, short message service center was developed. The CDMA network is successfully developed in 1996 and commenced to provide cellular services in Korea. SMC plays an important role in CDMA data services infrastructure. It was constructed on multifunction platform to allow messaging services in an integrated concept. This paper presents the overall architecture and the practical implementation of SMC for SMS in CDMA mobile system. Advanced techniques are introduced for the construction of SMC in the CDMA network. We also describe some additional features of SMC ETSI defines GSM 03.40 and 03.41 and provides point-to-point services and broadcasting services around Europe. TIA/EIA defines IS-41C, the general interface and the signaling standards of the SMS. CDMA Developers Group (CDG) recommends realization of Cellular Paging Teleservice (CPT), Cellular Messaging Teleservice (CMT), and Voice Mail Notification (VMN) based on IS-95 air interface protocol. CDG left broadcasting teleservices and supplementary services as implementation issues of systems and service providers. The MAP for CMS is similar to IS-41C and GSM MAP standards. CMS MAP supports single SMC as GSM does while IS-41C defines multiple SMCs in an SMS network. We added some operations for SMS in CMS MAP referring IS-41C. IS-637 recommended by TIA/EIA defines SMS teleservice and transport layer over IS-95. CMS SMS supports IS-637 and CMS MAP.
