The social atmosphere that accepts homosexuality is detected in three aspects. First, the social trend of being open to sexuality makes people more lenient to homosexuality. Second, postmodern social consciousness that acknowledges difference and variety makes it easy to accept homosexuality. Third, emphasis on human rights is creating an atmosphere for favorable acceptance of homosexuals.
In judging the homosexual orientation and homosexual activity, this study suggests theological principles as follows. (1) Homosexuality is not in itself condemnable as an orientation. Yet, it falls short of God's best for human beings. (2) Homosexual activity should be judged by the behavior itself. (3) Like heterosexual people, homosexuals are the objects of God's concern and love.
Homosexuals are in a much more unstable condition than ordinary people. Therefore, the Church must thoroughly understand its pastoral tasks for homosexuals and should agonize over what it will do for them.
