초록· 키워드
The purpose of this study is to investigate the teachers’perception of the safety education for disaster preparedness and mitigation. Subjects were 123 daycare center teachers in Seoul and Kyeonggi province, Korea. Data were analyzed in terms of frequency, means, standard deviation, t-test and oneway ANOVA. As a result, most teachers perceive that the safety education for disaster preparedness is considered as important but its current curriculum is regarded as not sufficient. They admit that it is very critical for young children to be ready to prepare natural disaster at their early ages. Ironically, natural disaster is identified as not of high priority among teacher concerns. A large number of teachers realize that it is necessary for the standard daycare center education curriculum to be strengthened in terms of natural disaster safety. They also recognize that it is very helpful for teachers to receive a training program in order to provide natural disaster safety education appropriate for young children. Majority of teachers respond that it would be very effective if teachers, parents, and safety professionals participate in safety education and practices for young children at the same time. Practicing one or 2 times a month is also selected as a good way to educate them. These results would give guidelines and basic information for policy making and further research in developing disaster education program and system.
