The lexicography is recently focusing on the development of electronic dictionary by getting out of the existing research and compiling of the paper dictionary. It means that the methodology and paradigm have been changed throughout all the processes of dictionary compilation. The compilation of electronic dictionary has little change in methodology just like general compilation of dictionary, but some scholars think that there has been little improved except the efficiency in search. The transition from paper dictionary to electronic dictionary shall not be made in the medium only from the paper dictionary to computer with the same contents as I can see in the most electronic dictionary currently developed, but the technological practice that can express the linguistic complexity would be important. An electronic dictionary is based on the computer and corpus. Therefore, the development of electronic dictionary is deeply related with the exchange with the natural language processing technology. In this point of view, this article will introduce various researches and compilation methods of electronic dictionary that show the change in compilation methods. Moreover, I’d like to consider the direction of dictionary compilation in the time of digital humanities, and the methods of dictionary compilation to contain the change of time in the climate to make complex and integral attempts even in humanities researches. Finally, I’d like to review the linguistic and lexicographic research contents that can predict the figure of future electronic dictionary.
