This paper proposes efficient target placement criteria for precise self-positioning of radar-based systems in GPS-denied environments. To this end, we conducted Monte Carlo simulations to analyze the impact of target vertical diversity on positioning accuracy. We observed that when targets form a near-coplanar configuration, the vertical error distribution is widely spread due to geometric singularity, resulting in an average RMSE of 1.817 m. In contrast, we demonstrate that securing vertical geometric diversity significantly reduces the RMSE to 0.177 m, representing an improvement of approximately 90.3%.
