Precise positioning is essential for autonomous platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles, but the global positioning system becomes unreliable in GPS-denied environments due to jamming. Radar-based self-positioning estimates the platform position from the ranges to reference targets at known locations, but when these targets are nearly coplanar the positioning matrix becomes geometrically singular and the vertical error grows severely. Conventional approaches mitigate this by elevating entire target structures, which imposes a heavy infrastructure burden, and use only the nearest-scatterer range of each target, exploiting 4 of the 12 available scatterers. This paper proposes a 12-anchor overdetermined localization structure that treats all three scatterers of each target as independent anchors, together with a single-scatterer vertical placement scheme that elevates only one scatterer per target. Monte Carlo simulations were performed for a 24 GHz stepped-frequency radar at 15, 10, and 5 dB SNR. The proposed method reduces the z-axis RMSE to 0.130–0.168 m from 0.189–0.260 m for the conventional 4-anchor method, a 20–36% improvement, and its error grows only about half as much as the SNR decreases, confirming its robustness under low SNR.
