As the spatial interaction, the migration patterns are studied extensively in social sciences. Among of them, the urban geographer would analyse the intraurban migration patterns to explain the spatial structure of the city. All migration patterns from the origins to the destinations among 60 Dongs in Daejon city were analysed at two points of times; with the data of 1984 and 1988 year. To analyse the complicated migration patterns, the author applied the graph theory to these data matrixes. For the analysis, the size of migration(flow), and the hierarchical linkages between origins and the destinations were tested from the maximum size to the 5th grade size. Quantity, distance and direction of migration, socioeconomic status, and developmental policy are mainly observed to explain the spatial structure through migration patterns.
The results of the analysis are as this follows:
1. The densely populated Dongs are distributed as a zonal ring which enclosed the rectangular shaped crater of Daejon city. The outer zone of the high population density Dongs consist of the middle zone of the city where the new residential estates are constructed extensively under the developmental policy.
2. The final nodes of the migration fields locate in the middle zone of the city. The migrations from the periphery show the concentrated patterns and the migrations from the city center show the dispersed patterns to the middle zone.
3. The migration patterns of 1988 year compared to 1984, disclosed the decrease of barrier effect, increase of non - sectoral and long distance migration. So, the distance of migration become longer and the direction to the destinations may be change variously, in some cases expose the opposite direction to the origins.
4. To compare to the higher order migration, the lower order migration patterns reveal the increase of the small size nodal regions, isolated final nodes, concentrated cluster patterns and long distance moves. Most of the final nodes in the migration linkages are in the middle zone. The cores of the middle woe exist in two parts of the city, the larger one is in the west and the smaller is in the east developed in accordance with the growth of city. The most important in - migration toward this middle woe in five order migration patterns at two points of time. These flow patters are different from the Western cities.
