Cancer is a major public health problem in the world. Lung cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the Korea, also, as well as being the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Elm tree (Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Nakai) is a deciduous tree which is widely distributed in Korea. The elm tree was belonging to the Ulmaceae family. The barks of the stem and the root of this plant have been used in oriental traditional medicine for the treatment of edema, mastitis, gastric cancer and inflammationin the literatures. Lung cancer chemopreventive effects of extract of elm tree were investigated.
