    The theory of cake filtration has been developed significantly during the past 50 years. Using Darcy's theory, the relationship of volume of filtrate and filtering time was theoretically derived before 1940. In the mid 1940's, the experimental method of Compression-Permeability Cell(CPC) created by Ruth was developed to study the internal phenomena of filter cake. From the early 1950's, the modern filtration theory for the internal phenomena of filter cake was developed to calculate the pressure distribution within filter cake. The theory of cake filtration was then advanced based on Tiller's study over the next 50 years to the present. However, we cannot analyze these phenomena of filtration with sedimentation and the initial period of filtration using the existing filtration theory and experiment. To solve these phenomena will be very important subjects in the future. And it will prove useful in the design of filtration system.
