Our previous study revealed that galectin-1 (GAL1) was up-regulated in obese rats, and thus we suggested that use of its inhibitors would be a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of obesity. To this end, we used thiodigalactoside (TDG), a potent inhibitor of GAL1, in order to identify differentially expressed proteins in white adipose tissues (WAT) of rats. We have performed a comparative analysis of protein expression profiles of WAT of control and TDG-treated rats using 2-DE combined with MALDI-TOF-MS. Differential expression of 32 spots from a total of 356 matched spots were identified as WAT proteins altered between control and TDG-treated rats by peptide mass finger printing.
