In this study, both three-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic model and a eutrophication model were applied to simulate the phytoplankton distribution for Jinhae bay in summer. In the field survey, mean concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen, phosphate-phosphorus and chlorophyll-a at surface areas were found to be 13.03 μg-at/ℓ, 0.18 μg-at/ℓ and 37.10 mg/m³, respectively, which were exceeding eutrophication criteria. Especially, the concentration of Chlorophyll-a was found to be very high in Masan Bay, but that of the western part of Jinhae Bay was below 10 mg/m³. The eutrophication model was calibrated with the data surveyed in the field of the study area from June, 1993. The predicted results are in fairly good agreement with measured values within a relative error of 30 %. The simulated results of phytoplankton distributions in the surface layer were close to the concentration of 3000 mg C/m³ in the inner part of Masan Bay and the concentration of 600 mg C/m³ near Jamdo.
