Dioxins were adsorbed on a protein released from Bacillus pumilus PH-01 isolated from dioxin analysis hood filter in POSTECH. The dioxin-adsorbing protein which was released when the biomass was boiled, is considered that it was originated from cell wall or capsule. The molecular weight of this protein was 5,316 Da, analyzed by SDS-PAGE and MALDI mass spectrometry. The optimal conditions for protein release were 100℃, 20 min and adsorption equilibrium time was 1 hour. The adsorption amount of 1,2,3,4-TCDF(tetrachlorinated dibenzofuran) on the unit mass of protein was greater than that of biomass itself. In the case of PCDD/Fs(polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans), high chlorinated isomers were more adsorbed than low chlorinated ones, and PCDFs(polychlorinated dibenzofurans) were more adsorbed than PCDDs(polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins). Considering that many other studies about adsorption mechanism of hazardous organic pollutants were the adsorption by microorganism biomass itself, this result is important to study the fate of hazardous organic pollutants.
