This study is about the outbreak of the Island Warfare on the West Coast during the Korean War. The purpose of this study is to present a more balanced and detailed picture of the initial stage of the Island Warfare which has been conducted largely based on the Chinese records. For this purpose, this thesis examines a series of actions taken by the UN Forces for the use of the northern islands on the west coast and the Communist forces’ counteractions for recapturing these up until the Taewha-do incident in early December 1951. For a more balanced approach, this study uses all of three main participants resources; including the West Coast Naval Task Group, Anti-Communist guerrillas, and the Chinese People"s Volunteer Army.
