This study aimed to settle the substructure of future research through the conceptualization of camping. To this end, the researchers developed the first definition of camping through domestic and foreign literature review and expert consultation. Afterward, experts with more than 10 years of experience were selected and a Delphi survey was conducted in a total of three times to supplement and revise the definitions for each stage. The final definition of camping is as follows: ‘Camping is a series of activities that take a variety of outdoor recreation or relaxation using tents, trailers, recreational vehicles, etc., for at least one night outside their home.’ The definition of camping derived from this study has three implications which distinguish it from the definitions in the existing literature. First, various concepts of camping were compiled through the review of those literature, and a definition were constructed based on the comprehensive understanding. Second, the valid definition through discussions of related field experts was derided. Third, the concept of camping that existed abstractly was conceptualized in more clear and measurable terms. The results of this study are expected to be widely used as the substructure of future research.
