This study examined pre-school students’ attitudes toward reading and evaluated the effects of gender upon reading attitudes. Twenty five students from a preschool participated in the study. After random selection of students, The Elementary Reading Attitude Survey (ERAS) was administered: The survey is purported to measure attitude toward recreational and academic reading. Results of the study demonstrate that participating preschool students showed a positive attitude towards the two dimensions of reading, namely, academic and recreational however, students indicated more interest in academic reading than recreational reading. Findings show that boys scored higher points than girls on the recreational reading attitude measure, thereby implying that boys’ attitude towards recreational reading was in general better than the girls in preschool years
