In this study, we evaluated anti-wrinkle efficacy of OLME in vitro using human dermal fibroblasts. OLME had a lower cytotoxicity to human dermal fibroblasts than AA, showing the MPL of over 200 μg/mL. OLME had a potent collagen synthetic ability comparable to AA and tea water extracts. In addition, OLME inhibitory efficacy on MMP-1 mRNA expression and MMP-2 activity was superior to those of AA and tea water extracts. From this study, it is confirmed that OLME has an excellent efficacy on stimulating of collagen synthesis and inhibiting of collagen degradation in human dermal fibroblasts, similar or even superior to those of AA which is a well-known anti-skin aging agent. These results suggest that OLME could be used as an effective anti-wrinkle agent.
