Silica has been used as the main pigment for inkjet paper. Silica has a problem of fluidity and is expensive because it is not produced in Korea. Therefore, research on replacing silica with zeolite was conducted. The zeolite pulverized for coating is not commercially available. In order to modify zeolite to special pigment for inkjet coating, this study conducted to optimize the zeolite the zeolite grinding process by a ball mill for the best grinding efficiency. A traditional ball mill and a planetary ball mill were utilized. Two different balls with a dimeter of 10 mm and 15 mm were used. Effects of the mixing ratio of the two different balls, the speed of a ball mill, and grinding time were investigated in terms of grinding efficiency. The grinding efficiency was evaluated by measuring the weight of the zeolite passing through 100 mesh and 140 mesh wire, respectively. It was found that the best grinding efficiency was obtained when mixing 75% of 15 mm balls and 25% of 10 mm balls.
