It is well known that there are two kinds of there in English; existential there1 and locative there2 . The relationship between these two types of there and the meanings of those have been discussed by many linguists. The previous studies on there construction began with formal syntactic aspects but nowadays some linguists have become interested in semantic problems of the construction. In this paper it was observed that there were some problems in there insertion of transformational grammar. And the meaning of two kinds of there which many linguists presented so far was investigated in detail. This paper aims to find out the correct meaning of there in English by both syntactic and semantic analysis in order to present a direction for the generation of them. It has been shown in this paper that there1 is not a meaningless element but represents an abstract, invisible and psychologically restricted area as the extension of there2 . And the role of there1 as subject was explained by perceptual strategy. Therefore it is desirable to generate there construction by the base rule.
