Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of industrial accidents and improvement measures through systematic literature review, and to present guidelines for health care workers to work in a safer and healthier workplace based on the contents derived from the systematic literature review.

Background: Previous studies on the characteristics of occupational accidents in health care workers have consisted of musculoskeletal diseases, infections, chemical-induced occupational cancers, and skin diseases, but systematically organized studies are insufficient.

Method: The research was conducted on articles searched on June 29, 2021 in databases such as Pubmed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect using the following search formula ("doctor" OR "nurse" OR "hospital" OR "healthcare-center") AND ("safety-awareness" OR "safety-behavior" OR "work-related-disorder" OR "work-accident" OR "occupational-injury" OR "occupational-illness" OR "occupational-disease" OR "Occupational-accident").

Results: In the database used in this study, a total of 1,024 articles were retrieved from Pubmed 496, Web of Science 225, and ScienceDirect 303. On the other hand, among the references of the selected articles, there were no additional articles that met the criteria to be included. 794 articles were selected, excluding duplicate articles. Of the 794 articles, a total of 728 were excluded according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 66 articles were selected. Among them, 21 articles on safety culture were excluded for further research, and a systematic literature review was conducted with 45 articles in the end.

Conclusion: In this study, the characteristics of occupational accidents of health care workers and improvement measures to reduce occupational accidents were classified into four categories (diseases caused by exposure to pathogens, diseases caused by ergonomic factors, occupational diseases caused by chemicals, occupational stress and health effects of shift work) to summarize. In addition, it can be seen that the working conditions and working environment of health care workers are serious, so it can be seen that efforts and support are needed to improve the working conditions and working environment of health care workers.

Application: This study summarizes the characteristics of occupational accidents and improvement measures of health care workers through systematic literature review, and it is thought that it can be used as basic data for improving the working environment and working conditions of health care workers.
