The present study aimed to see whether peer interactions, which form young children's psychological environments in childcare centers, can be developed in a positive direction by a structured sand play program. In order to promote peer interactions, this study designed and executed a group sand play program, and observed changes in peer interactions among the young children participating in the program. According to the results of this study, significant positive changes were observed in the child participants' peer interactions, suggesting the effects of the group sand play program. In the current societal situation where demands for quality improvement in childcare services are increasing, the present study examined the possibility of group sand play as a way to enhance sociability of young children in childcare centers. We expect the development and application of various sand play programs that improve children's sociability, produce psychologically therapeutic effects, and enable an improvement in childcare service quality.
