This paper describes the phonological adaptations of English loanwords into Kipokomo, a Bantu language of Kenya belonging to Sabaki sub-family. The adaptations are described within the framework of Optimality Theory. Specifically, the paper describes vowel, consonant and syllable processes applied to English words borrowed into Upper Kipokomo, and the effect of these repair strategies on the phonology of the borrowing language. Data for the paper were collected in Tana River County, the home county of Kipokomo speakers, through questionnaires. The paper shows that vowel epenthesis is the most preferred repair strategy for illicit codas and consonant clusters in Upper Kipokomo. It also shows that most of the consonants borrowed from English into Upper Kipokomo resembled the phonemes of the latter language and that English syllable structures with consonant clusters are changed into a sequence of consonant-vowel, that is, CV syllables. A few consonant clusters were retained by the borrowing language.
